ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PML-N) leader and Minister of Railways Khawaja Saad Rafique on Tuesday alleged that Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari is working on an ‘unknown, secret agenda’.
The statement comes soon after PPP’s Qamar Zaman Kaira lashed out at the PML-N, claiming that ‘democracy doesn’t suit the party.’
“Something has happened to PPP’s democratic sensibilities, and Zardari seems to be working on an unknown, secret agenda,” Asif claimed.
Minister of State for Interior AffairsTalal Chaudhry too took a jibe at the opposition party, said that the PPP has lost its direction.
“Despite having done nothing, we [PML-N] has been brought to this point,” he said, “but their deeds will certainly land them in trouble.”
“PPP should try and be part of the stability of Pakistan’s system instead of standing with Musharraf’s ideology,” Chaudhry said, adding that the ‘Musharraf-vaccine’ has affected the PPP.
The PML-N leader accused Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf and ‘new-Musharraf’s PPP’ for fighting during the day and agreeing by night.
“Nobody should think of derailing the system,” Chaudhry stressed. “We accepted the court’s verdict despite having reservations with it so that the system isn’t affected, so anyone who tries to raise a finger against the system will be acting against Pakistan.”
Democracy does not suit PML-N: Kaira
Addressing a press conference in Islamabad earlier today (Tuesda), Kaira had said that the PML-N has tried its level best to destablise the democratic process, though the institutions have exhibited patience in the face of PML-N's political tactics.
"Nawaz Sharif’s interests are not aligned with democracy."
He had further claimed that the PML-N president would be unable to contest elections even if he manages to emerge safely from the ongoing corruption references against him.
The back and forth between the ruling party and opposition comes at the back of a recent amendment to the legislation, through which a person disqualified to hold public office can be a political party's president.
